Independent Variable
The thing you change or control (Example: How many hours you study)
Vector
A quantity with size and direction (Example: Velocity = 10 m/s north)
Dependent Variable
The thing you measure or observe—it depends on the independent variable (Example: The test score you get, depending on how long you studied)
Displacement
The straight-line change in position from where an object starts to where it ends (Example: If you walk 5 meters east from your house, then 3 meters west, your displacement is 2 meters east)
Velocity
How fast something moves and the direction it’s moving in (Example: A car moves 20 m/s to the east)
Distance
How much total ground you have covered (Example: If you walk 7m north and 3m south, your distance is 10m)
Acceleration
How quickly velocity changes (Example: A car speeds up from 0 m/s to 20 m/s in 5 seconds )
Graph
A visual representation of a data set
Scalar
A quantity with size only, no direction (Example: Speed = 10 m/s)
Where are independent and dependent variables on a graph?
