They had to learn rivers and streams were. They had to learn which plants were harmful and which plants they could use. They only had the supplies they brought with them. There were no doctors' offices or hospitals. They had to learn what crops would grow. They had to deal with droughts. They didn't have enough food. They missed their loved ones back home in England.
