Can you, or are you allowed to hang/post things on the wall?
Preferably documentations and artwork are posted on bulletin boards. However, permanent pieces of artwork or possible special displays can be hung on the walls with the appropriate documentation

How long can documentation stay posted?
Documentation that is posted must be: Still evident as an interest in the room as indicated by the program plan An example of an extended experience still evident on the program plan A permanent documentation describing a decorative adornment to the centre Speaks to a developmental issue/transition relevant to the room.

What should a play highlight look like?
A play highlight is a brief description of a significant play experience that a child was involved in that day. It should be concise and clear enough for the family to get a snap shot image of that experience. The key is that it should be significant, and relate to development.

Can you put up pictures of the children without documentation?
Yes, you can have framed pictures of the children in the room or use photos of children at play for boarders. However, if you have a series of pictures depicting a play experience there should be a documentation depicting the process and the significance of the play

There is no magic number. The key is that the bulletin board needs to adhere to the general principles of being balanced, symmetrical and not too crowded or sparse.

Can you use words such as “it seemed like” in a children’s journal?
Children’s journals are intended to describe what you saw a child involved in as opposed to suggesting how a child feels, therefore use of that phrase would not be appropriate.

Minimum 1 per week with half hour of preparation time. Association standard is 1. Play in Action indicator is 2.

What is the difference between a newsletter and a play highlight?
The my week at a glance, which includes the play highlight is for toddlers and preschooler’s. It is completed daily for each child in attendance. The newsletter is for kindergarten ages children, is to be completed weekly and made available to families on Friday. The newsletter should include the major experiences that the group was involved in throughout the week, identifying each child by name. The developmental significance of each of the highlighted experiences should also be described in a sentence or two.

Can you use coloured construction paper rather than black or white to mount documentation?
Yes, use coloured paper. Make sure that the paper is colour coordinated with the wall backing it and other posted documentations or artwork

Can you use coloured paper to print documentations?
No. Using coloured paper does not meet curriculum criteria. White paper will compliment any colour that is used on the bulleting board.
