PNS
Spinal Cord
Reflexes
150

2 parts make up the PNS

Somatic Nervous System

Autonomic Nervous System

150

Area of skin innervated by all the sensory neurons of a single spinal nerve

Dermatomes

150

Neuron that brings sensory information to the CNS. In a reflex arc, this is in the spinal cord.

Sensory Neuron

250

3 cranial nerves that control eye movement

Oculomotor
Trochlear
Abducens

250

spinal nerves C5-T1; supply upper limbs and pectoral girdle

Brachial Plexus
250

Smooth, skeletal or cardiac muscle or glands that create a response to the stimulus.

 Effector

350

This division is utilised under extreme conditions

sympathetic division

350

Tract responsible for discriminative touch, conscious proprioception, kinesthesia, pressure and vibration

Dorsal Column- Medial Lemniscus (DC-ML)

350

Neuron, Nerve cell, in the CNS, that passes the impulses from the sensory neuron to a motor neuron

Interneuron

500

Neurotransmitter are used by the parasympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system

Acetycholine

500

Tract that carries crude touch, pain and temperature if the lateral side is damaged

Anterior Spinothalamic Tract

500

5 components of the reflex arc

  • Components:
    • Sensory Receptor – receives the stimulus
    • Sensory Neuron – carries out information from receptor to integrating center
    • Integrating System – processes the info and modulate response of reflex
    • Motor Neuron – carry motor impulse to the effector
    • Effector – carries out the reflex response  interruption in one of these can interrupt the reflex
