What is imagery?
Two lines at the end of a poem that rhymes. These two lines are usually at the end of a sonnet.

A word that has the same (or nearly the same) meaning as another word
What is synonym?
Language that applies human characteristics to inanimate things
What is personification?
The way that lines are grouped in a poem.
What is a stanza?
A japanese form of poetry that has only three lines. Line one has five syllables. Line two has seven syllables. Line three has five syllables.
What is haiku?
When the same consonant sound appears repeatedly in a line or sentence.
What is consonance?
Saying something is bigger, smaller, worse, or better than it actually is. She scared me to death.
What is hyperbole?
Words that begin with the same sound and are placed close together
What is alliteration?
Repeating words, lines, or phrases.
What is repetition?
Words that sound like what they mean. Snap, crackle, or pop are examples.
What is onomatopoeia?
An author's word choice and phrasing; author's style
What is diction?
The literal, dictionary meaning of a word or phrase
What is denotation?
The feeling the reader gets from the text
What is mood?
A universal idea, lesson, or message explored throughout a work of literature
What is a theme?
A speech given by a single character in a story
What is monologue?
Using comparisons in your writing. These should not be taken literally.
What are figurative language?
The feeling behind a word (ie - house, home, shack)
What is connotation?
The author's attitude toward the character, the subject, or the audience.
What is tone?
The narrative voice that speaks of a writer’s feelings or situation
What is speaker?
