- flush injured area with vinegar for at least 30 seconds or if vinegar not available, mix baking soda and water into a paste and leave it on area for 20 minutes 

- with gloves, remove any pieces of animal

- immerse affected area in water as a hot as person can tolerate for latest 20 minutes or until pain is relieved (hot or cold packs can also be used)

- watch for signs of infection and encourage person to seek medical attention
