Neorealism

500

describe spatial theory. List the strengths and weaknesses of this theory

This theory argues that you look at the ideologies of the two parties, then you figure out where you place yourself ideologically. Spatial theory is strong because it seems realistic, while it says issues matter, it does not say specific issues matter. (You can change party ID, but it should be slow.)  What matters is your stance on issues versus the two parties' stance on issues. Weak because an argument can be made that voters are not good at identifying where the two parties are ideologically. However, some think that  this suggests party ID should change more than the theory suggests
