Buddy System
What is "the rule of 3"? We are never alone with a camper. Campers are never alone with another camper. There are ALWAYS three around. This is the rule of three and is sometimes called the buddy system.

What is mostly FALSE? We do not engage in mean teasing of any sort. We definitely do not do pranks. We only have them for a short time, so let's keep it all positive and fun.

Rest/Night Break
What is "JKR staff get a two hour break every day"? Each cabin will have two counselors. One counselor gets a break from 1-3pm and meets back up with their campers at snack time. The other counselor gets a break at night from 10-midnight. They sneak into the cabin after everyone is asleep and go to bed. The campers are with at least one counselor at ALL TIMES. How can Braveheart Staff help???

This is what we do when kids are being mean to each other at camp.
Refer back to the Group Norms that were established at the church before the kids came to camp. Counselors should ask the campers about this on the first night. Set clear expectations and stay near your campers to keep tabs on what is being said. Try to talk to campers one on one when possible (within eye and ear shot of others, of course).
True or False: Food is something we are grateful for and do not play with.
What is "TRUE! While some food waste is expected, we never engage in food fights or food eating contests. Some of these kids may have come from food insecure homes and we need to be mindful of this."?

This is how I get a kid to eat something at camp when they refuse to eat.
What is "You don't!"? We cannot and will not force feed kids, so we don't even enter into a power struggle. We do not barter or make deals. We do not withhold a cookie if they didn't eat all their veggies. You simply encourage and empower them to find something they can eat that will nourish their body. Most of them are here for such a short time. You can work with Andy, Emily or Esmeralda ... and the nurses or kitchen staff to find something a kid will eat. Drinking water is equally if not more important!
