Although it isn’t quiet hours, courtesy hours are 24/7. If it is disrupting the community and affecting other students’ ability to study, do homework, sleep, etc., it should be confronted. Explain to the student why you knocked and ask them to turn the music down.

Utilize any nearby staff (other RAs, security, pro staff, etc.) to help with crowd control. Explain to residents that they need to give the student privacy and space. Always follow up with residents if there is a major disruption in the community.

Plan a time to meet up later that day or as soon as possible. You can also refer them to other RAs in the building if they have a relationship with them as well. It is important to help residents with their issues, but you are also students!
