Check back in with the student an hour or so later to check-in. If maintenance has not come by, call Public Safety to report this. Follow up with primary.
If it is in a public space (i.e., hallway, lounge, etc.), try to block it off, if possible

All guests must be 17 years of age or older.
Guests must show one of the following upon entry:
Driver’s license, Passport, Military ID, Green Card, Overnight guests may stay no longer than three (3) nights in a seven-day period.
All guest must have their guest pass on them at all times
Furthermore, overnight guests may stay no more than ten (10) calendar days in a month.
Residents must be physically present with their guests at all times.
Guests are expected to follow Berklee’s policies while on campus.
Guests who violate this privilege may have their overnight guest privileges terminated.
It is important to get approval from your roommate(s) before bringing over any guests.

Take pictures of any graffiti/etc., and email to the Primary on Call, also attach the picture to the incident report.
Offer to connect the students impacted to the Primary on Call in order to speak to a counselor
If it is graffiti, do not erase the writing/offensive material. Call Public Safety immediately to inform maintenance
Check in with the students who may have been impacted and see how they are doing
Inform the student that they can file a report with our Chief Equity Officer, the Boston Police Department, and/or Public Safety. Inform the student that you will file an IR
If a student wishes to report a hate or bias incident, it is not your job to ascertain if what they are reporting has merit

During an intentional interaction a student states to you that they have been having a hard time at Berklee and that they were assaulted a few days ago. What do you do?
Show compassion and empathize with the difficult situation they are undergoing. Give the student space and time to talk.
Let the resident know you are a mandated reporter. Keep in mind, you may never promise anonymity as RA’s must report all incidents.
