Types of Variables
This type of variable occurs prior in time to both the independent and dependent variables.
What is an antecedent variable?
This type of threat occurs when some historical event affects your study outcome
What is a History Threat?
In this design, there is only one group, and the outcome is measured before and after the program is administered
What is a single-group, pre and post-test design?
This is the list from which a sample is drawn
What is the sampling frame?
This type of variable is not along the causal pathway, but it does affect the strength of the relationship between the independent and dependent variable.
What is a moderating variable?
This type of threat occurs when there is a change due to normal maturation, not your intervention
What is a maturation threat?
In this design, participants are randomly assigned into groups
What is a randomized design, or "true experiment"
In this type of sampling, participants are chosen out of expediency
What is convenience sampling?
This type of variable is an effect of the independent variable, and a cause of the dependent variable. It indicates the mechanism through which the independent variable influences the dependent variable.
