The ability to make an object move or change direction
Energy
Energy that is STORED in the position or condition of an object
Potential Energy
The energy of MOTION
Kinetic Energy
Using a force to move an object
Work
The energy that an object gains when work is done on it. (Potential and kinetic energy are two forms of this).
Mechanical Energy
The movement of energy from one object to another or the change of energy from one form to another
Energy Transfer
the idea that energy cannot be created or destroyed
Conservation of Energy
What idea is this showing?
Energy Transfer!
How do you know if something has energy?
Everything has energy! An object is either in motion (Kinetic energy) or it is storing energy (Potential energy).
How is a roller coaster a good example of Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy?
At the top of the roller coaster, the car has stored potential energy. As it goes down the ramp, it loses potential energy and gains kinetic energy. When it reaches the bottom of the ramp, it has no potential energy and all kinetic energy.
Give two examples of Potential Energy
Give two examples of Kinetic Energy
How does a football helmet relate to Kinetic Energy?
What happens when objects collide?
Energy is transferred from one object to another object.
