A power tool that can make precise cuts at various angles, including straight, mitered, and beveled cuts.
Chop/ Miter Saw
A power tool that uses a motorized mechanism to drive a continuous loop of sandpaper over two rollers.
Belt sander
A tool used for making round holes or driving fasteners. Can be powered by battery or corded.
Hand drill
A cylindrical sleeve or band that's used to hold a tool or workpiece in place by forming a collar around it. When tightened, they apply a strong clamping force.
Collet
A tool used to illuminate dark areas. It can be battery powered or corded.
Flashlight
A woodworking tool that uses a circular saw blade to cut wood and other materials. The blade protrudes through a table that supports the material being cut.
Table saw
These are the most common ways to power a sander.
Electrical & Pneumatic
A power tool that uses a rotary action and a hammering motion to drill into hard materials like concrete or masonry.
Hammer drill
A unit of measuring a routers size.
Horsepower/ Hp
A handheld power tool with a rotating abrasive disc that can be used for a variety of tasks, including cutting, grinding, deburring, finishing, and polishing.
Angle grinder
A power tool that oscillates a blade or other attachments back and forth at high speed to cut, sand, scrape, and more.
Oscillating saw
A hand-held power tool which sands in a random-orbit action. The paper can be attached with velcro, sticky -back, or clamped.
Palm sander
Outputs higher torque levels than a drill, making it more efficient for quickly driving long, wide and large screws into tough materials. Uses a hammer and twisting action.
Impact driver
Set to a specific depth before you start cutting. Must start on an edge. Used to round over edges and form profiles.
fixed-base routers
A handheld tool that uses a reciprocating blade to cut through a variety of materials. The blade moves back and forth or in a push-and-pull motion.
reciprocating saw
A portable power-saw using a toothed blade or abrasive disc to cut different materials using a spinning motion. The blade turns CCW.
Circular saw
A number that indicates the size of the abrasive particles embedded in the paper per square inch.
Grit
A machine that uses a rotating drill bit to create holes. Freestanding, and usually arranged vertically. The drill bit is pressed into the workpiece, which is usually clamped in a vise.
Drill press
What the router uses to cut with.
Bits
A power tool that can cut curved lines, circles, and other shapes into a variety of materials. The saw uses a "rapid up-and-down motion" to cut with.
Jig saw
The saw's blade is a continuous band that's welded together and moves around pulleys, allowing the user to cut lengthwise through materials.
Portable Bandsaw
A heavy-duty machine that stands on the floor. It usually has a belt on one side and a disk on the other. It can be used for a variety of sanding tasks.
Pedestal sander
A power tool that uses a strong electromagnetic base to drill holes into ferrous metals like steel and iron.
Magnetic drill
A stationary woodworking machine that holds a router upside down, with the cutter bit facing up and protruding through a hole in the table. They have a vertical fence that the user can guide the workpiece against to control the horizontal depth of the cut.
