Mrs. Sanders is a 60 year old patient scheduled for hysterectomy for post menopausal bleeding. Her pertinent health history includes menopause at age 50, on hormonal therapy since, 25 pack years of smoking and gum bleed each time she brushes her teeth.
RN assigned to prepare her for surgery understands to use this tool to assess her likelihood of developing thrombus after surgery.

What is socioeconomic status?

What are preoperative preparation?

What is Type and Screen?
Mr. Norris is scheduled for lumbar micro discectomy tomorrow. During his preoperative interview, RN found that his pertinent health history includes past use of recreational drug, obstructive sleep apnea on CPAP, 25 pack years of smoking and myocardial infarction last month.
This finding needs to be reported to the anesthesiologist immediately.

What is patient's understanding of the surgery, anesthesia and discharge planning?
Anesthesiologist Dr. Ham is reviewing Mr. Matthew's medication, who is scheduled for Cystoscopy for possible bladder tumor resection. Dr. Ham noticed that Mr. Matthew is on Phentermine which patient confirmed taking the night before. RN who was assigned to prepare Mr. Matthew failed to complete this, causing surgery to be cancelled.
What is preoperative medication reconciliation?
Mr. Sims is in for his right hip replacement. He is a very compliant patient and adhered to all preoperative instructions he was told. He took chlorhexidine shower last night and this morning, didn't have anything to drink or eat since midnight and stopped all his medications 7 days ago. However, he has been coughing, sneezing and feverish since last night. He said he is fine and has taken a whole month off from work for this surgery. He is ready to get this done. RN reports to the anesthesiologist this important finding.
