Priesthood Basics
It is the power and authority of God given to man to act in Jesus Christ’s name on earth.
What is the Priesthood?
Jesus Christ holds all of these, which are the rights to direct how the priesthood is used on earth. They are compared to an object used to unlock a door.
What are Priesthood Keys?
This is the very first saving ordinance of the gospel, performed in water by someone with priesthood authority.
What is Baptism?

This priesthood prepares us to make covenants with Jesus. It is named after the brother of Moses.
What is the Aaronic Priesthood?
He is the only person on earth who is authorized by Jesus Christ to use all of the priesthood keys to lead the whole world.
Who is the Prophet (or President of the Church)?
Young men use priesthood authority to prepare, bless, and pass this ordinance every Sunday so we can remember Jesus Christ and His Atonement.
What is the Sacrament?
We receive God's priesthood power when we make these two-way promises with Him.
What are Covenants?
Out of respect for Jesus Christ, we try not to say His name too often. Instead, we call the higher priesthood by the name of this great and righteous ancient king.
What is the Melchizedek Priesthood?
This leader holds the priesthood keys for your local ward, and he uses them to authorize baptisms and direct the sacrament.
Who is the Bishop?
Priesthood authority is used to give a new baby this, which includes a name and a special prayer for their life.
What is a Baby Blessing (or Name and a Blessing)?
When we are confirmed, a priesthood holder places his hands on our head and tells us to "Receive" this member of the Godhead.
Who is the Holy Ghost?
Young men can now be ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood beginning in January of the year they turn this age.

This heavenly messenger, who baptized Jesus, appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery to restore the keys of the Aaronic Priesthood.
Who is John the Baptist?
Because of Jesus Christ, this beautiful temple ordinance uses priesthood authority to connect parents and children together forever, not just until we die.
What is a Sealing? (or What is the Sealing Ordinance?)
In this beautiful holy building, both men and women make deeper covenants to follow Jesus Christ and are endowed with His priesthood power.
What is the Temple?
The greatest goal of the Savior's priesthood power is to make sure that these groups of people can be sealed together in the temple and never be separated.
What are Families?
Jesus sent these three ancient Apostles down to earth as angels to restore the higher priesthood to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery.
Who are Peter, James, and John?
This special priesthood blessing is usually received when you are a teenager or older. It gives you personal guidance from the Savior for your life and tells you which tribe of Israel you belong to.
What is a Patriarchal Blessing?
