Pro Tools Edit Modes
This mode allows you to snap regions to predefined, fixed points in the edit window.
What is Grid Mode?
The tool used to get a closer or father view on a region in the edit window.
What is the Zoomer Tool?
This mode will read the automation that is written, but not allow you to write automation during playback.
What is read mode?
This is data that you can write in the computer or with a hardware controller that provides instructions to an instrument. There is no audio information in this data and requires an instrument to read and perform it.
What is MIDI?
This mode causes audio regions to bump up against each other. Free form editing and movement is not possible in this mode.
What is Shuffle Mode?
The tool used to move regions.
What is the Grabber Tool?
This allows you view which parameter is being automated on a track. Some options are waveform, pan, and volume.
What is the track view selector?
These are plugins used in Pro Tools that allow you to playback MIDI data. They give you flexibility to play a wide variety of sounds.
What are virtual instruments?
This mode allows you to move a region to a specific time.
What is Spot Mode?
This is the tool used to select, cut, or clear regions.
What is the Selector Tool?
This automation mode begins writing automation as soon as playback is started.
What is write mode?
These are the two types of tracks you can write MIDI data with in Pro Tools.
What are MIDI and Instrument tracks?
This mode allows you to move the track freely.
What is Slip Mode?
This is a tool that combines three edit tools into one.
What is the Smart Tool?
This automation mode starts writing automation as soon as you click the fader or parameter you want to automate and returns to it's original point as soon as you let go.
What is the touch mode?
This window allows you to edit MIDI notes as well as change other MIDI parameters such as velocity.
What is the MIDI editor window?
This Mode is the most useful when recording to editing to a specific tempo.
What is Grid Mode?
This is the tool used to manually draw automation
What is the Pencil Tool?
This automation mode begins writing as soon as you click the fader or parameter to automate and leaves the automation at the last point you left it when you let go of the mouse.
What is latch mode?
This is the velocity range that you can use when working with MIDI data.
