During an early morning review you observe an employee coming in 20 minutes prior to the start of their shift. Approximately 10 minutes later the employee exits the employee entrance carrying the jacket that was worn when the employee entered. The employee appears to be concealing something in the jacket. What are the investigative steps that need to be taken from here?
What is... contact your LPM and Investigator and notify them of your findings, document a tip into APIS, pull additional video for this date to track the employee in the store to try and identify what the employee may have exited with and set up additional surveillances on employee.

You observe a female subject enter into the Savvy department and quickly select two pairs of jeans and conceal them inside of her shopping bag. She then meets up with a male and hands him the shopping bag. She proceeds to the cosmetics department and he escalates to the second floor and exits out through the mall doors. What do you do?
What is... you approach the male and identify yourself both verbally and with a badge as Nordstrom Loss Prevention. You explain to him that even though he may not be aware, there is unpaid for merchandise inside of the shopping bag that you need to recover. You immediately recover the jeans and thank him for his cooperation. He is not brought back to the loss prevention office nor is he accused of theft.

You ask to check her package and she reluctantly hands over the shopping bag. Inside you find a receipt for two items that are in the shopping bag. You also identify two shirts that do not have any proof of purchase. You ask the employee about the shirts and the employee states that the cashier must have forgotten to ring them. What are... Were you ringing this merchandise up all together? Did the employee place all the merchandise into the shopping bag? Re-confirm what the employee just told you.

She carefully places her hand over two pairs of earrings displayed on the counter (concealing them). Slowly she palms them in her hand and places her hand inside of her handbag. She refuses sales help and proceeds to exit the store after stopping briefly in the shoe department to look at a few pairs of shoes. Do you make the approach?
What is... No. The two-take guideline recommends not taking small items unless there is two separate selections and concealments. Risk vs Reward is also a factor in the fact that the subject stopped in the shoe department to look at shoes. Small items can be easily discarded and dumped without our knowledge.
