Incident: means anything (which is not an accident) that could have an effect on the Child. This report would go to the child who cause harm/behaviour.

What is a DSL and who is our center wide representative?

Designated Safeguarding Lead. It is a person who promotes the well-being of those in our care.

Amanda is our center-wide rep. Typically the DSL is our Health and Safety rep too. Any DSL would be required to either do the opening or closing shift.

There are 10 case studies:

What is the definition of Flight Risk?

Is a child that is wondering/running off from the group at any point of the day.

You are not able to if ratios are not being met.

If you need anything from the cubby area, encourage the children to assist with grabbing what you need. It is important to always ensure you have extra clothing for ALL children in the classroom.

What is the exclusion period for children with diarrhea and vomiting?

48 hrs after the last symptom. Not from time of pick up.

What is the Pearson assessment and how often should it be done?

Pearson Assessments provide a developmental tool for educators to use as a running record to support developmentally appropriate programming and identify children’s individual needs. 

Ongoing assessments will be completed for each child two times per year (October and May) although educators can update the assessments at any point as observations are made.

Educators will complete the assessment within the child’s first month to create a starting point.

- While engaging with the children at their level, consider continous scanning of the environment.

What are the expectations of photos being sent on reports on a weekly basis?

o Every week, a minimum of 2 photos of each child should be sent showcasing joyful engagement within the environment and participation in learning activities.

o A maximum of 5 photos can be sent, especially when children are new to the program.

Can Center Directors be counted in ratio?

no, they cannot, in case of emergencies. Assistant Directors yes- they can be counted in ratio.

When you have a consistent supply staff (someone who has been multiple times at the center) in your room, should you still transition in small groups?

- Yes, if they are comfortable with doing so. 

- Keeping in mind behaviours in your room and possible rearrangement of small groups to accomodate more challenging behaviours to home room staff.

What steps are required for site evacuation?

- Gather children, follow steps for transition, exit closest exit and meet at meeting spot. Once direction is received from emergency services/ director. Walk to the evacuation site. (Down Queen Mary St, right on Stewart St, right on Bartos Drive until you reach Kerr Street Missions.)
