A client's family offers an RBT a suitcase full of 100$ bill bands as a thank-you for providing services. What should the RBT do?

Because the gift is over 10$'s the RBT can not accept the gift :'(

100

Whhhattt, that's crazy!

200

An RBT's notices a new target on their clients behavior plan. The RBT reads the target and doesn't understand how to perform the target. What should the RBT do?

RBT should communicate the confusion about the target and ask for clarification on how to run it, to ensure accurate data is collected.

200

An RBT sees a client at the grocery store. The client's caregiver says hello and introduces the RBT to a super cool family friend. The super cool family friend asks how the client is doing on their problem behaviors? Should the RBT discuss the client's ABA services with the friend?

No way!

The RBT should protect the client's privacy and avoid disclosing identifying or confidential information unless disclosure is permitted or required.

200

A client's caregiver asks the RBT to babysit the client on the weekend for extra money. What would be the professional concern in this case?

This is a duel relationship concern. Duel relationships generally compromise professional boundaries.

200

An RBT believes another RBT may have violated an ethical requirement. What is an appropriate first step?

When appropriate, the RBT should first bring the concern to their supervisor and attempt to resolve the issue. If the concern cannot be resolved, it may need to be reported to the appropriate authority, which may include the BACB when applicable.

200

Ace Howard

300

An RBT's friend asks for advice about how to treat their child's severe behavior because the RBT "works in ABA and has experience". What is the most appropriate response?

The RBT should avoid providing individualized behavior-analytic treatment recommendations outside their professional role. They can recommend that the family seek services from an appropriately qualified behavior-analytic professional; maybe even one at Nova Supports.

300

A client made a killer awesome shirt during an activity with their RBT; the RBT took a picture of the client with the new shirt on, the RBT cropped the clients face out of the picture and then posted the photo on their instagram story with the caption "just shirt things". Is this an acceptable protection of privacy.

No. The BACB Ethics Code specifically prohibits RBTs from sharing identifying client information, including photos or videos, on social media or websites. RBTs should not post client-related content simply because the client's face is not visible.

300

A RBT gets a friend request from one of their clients siblings on instagram. What is the most professional response?

The RBT should maintain appropriate professional boundaries and followorganizational policies. Accepting personal social-media connections with clients or their family members is likely to create boundary issues.

300

An RBT discovers that they accidentally submitted inaccurate information to their supervisor; perhaps they got the time or place wrong. Should they simply correct it the next time they see their supervisor?

Reporting is pretty important stuff, and usually time sensitive. Contacting your supervisor as soon as you can would be the most ethical.

Cambrie!!!
She's so kind

400

During a session, a caregiver tells the RBT that they "hate" a certain target the RBT is running and asks the RBT to stop running it. The RBT knows the BCBA over this client has put emphasis on running this target in hopes to directly work on problem behavior. What should the RBT do?

Stop running the target and communicate with the BCBA on what to do moving forward; communication needs to be established and encouraged between RBT, caregiver and BCBA.

400

An RBT needs to email a supervisor about a client. What should the RBT consider before sending the message?

Is the email secure, does this message compromise any of my clients information, does this message follow all privacy laws/company polices/supervisor directions? Make sure to abbreviate client names!

400

A client's family invites their RBT to a large family celebration. The family says, "You're basically part of our family now!" What should the RBT consider before attending?

The RBT should recognize the potential for a dual relationship and discuss the situation with their supervisor. Professional relationships should remain appropriate and centered on the client's services.

400

An RBT suspects an ethical violation but is afraid that reporting it will cause conflict at work. What should the RBT remember?

Report even when it's uncomfortable. Talk with your supervisor, there is more than likely a reasonable solution.

500

An RBT is asked to look over a clients little brother along with the client while the primary caregiver goes shopping for "an hour or two" during session. What should the RBT's response be?

The RBT should inform the caregiver that the RBT's scope of practice is primarily focused on their client and that they can not be responsible for the little brother, no matter how awesome the little brother is!

500

You get a message on Snapchat from what could be your clients caregiver. They are asking, "I forgot when we have sessions, could you tell me where and when we are meeting?" Is the RBT fine to inform the caregiver of this information over snapchat?

No. Communicate through established communication pathways that maintain privacy and ensure correct client contact.

500

A clients family has just experienced an immediate family members death. The caregivers get into the habit of venting, crying, and sharing deeply personal stories with the consistent RBT coming to sessions. What should be the RBT's response in this situation.

The RBT can show compassion and understanding; but must also keep focus on the client or session progress, keeping professional boundaries must be a priority. Reporting the situation to their supervisor would benefit the situation to ensure transparency in the professionalism. RBTs are ethically prohibited from acting as grief counselors.

500

An RBT is unsure if they are breaking an ethics code or not. They don't want to report themselves in fear of getting in trouble. What should the RBT do?

Talk with your supervisor, see what you can improve on! Keeping RBT's and improving RBT's is what Nova Supports wants to foster and encourage!
