An art form whose medium is sound.

Bi-Directional
Pickup pattern that resembles a heart.
Cardioid
The length of time that the sound will maintain it's level.
Sustain
The quality of a music note or sound or tone that distinguishes different types of sound production.
Timbre
A map that shows which direction a microphone receives audio from and where it rejects sound from.
Pickup Pattern
Sweeten
The time between the signal reaching the threshold when the automatic gain reduction takes place.
Attack
The rate of reduction of the audio signal generated from the peak level to sustain level.
Decay
Distributing an electric current through audio cables to provide power for microphones or other equipment.
Phantom Power
Dialogue that cannot be salvaged from filming must be re-recorded in this process.
ADR (Automatic Dialog Replacement)
A design and quality control system for the playback environment in a threatre.
