*DAILY DOUBLE*

Your client tells you they're being evicted Friday. Instead of saying, “Here is the number for housing assistance,” describe three things a strong PRP staff could actually do during the session.

A client tells you during a PRP session that they are struggling with housing, have stopped taking their medication, and are feeling overwhelmed. As the PRP counselor, what should you do, and what should you not do?

The PRP staff should assess for immediate safety concerns, help the client identify and access appropriate housing/community resources, encourage and assist the client with communicating medication concerns to their prescribing provider, reinforce relevant coping/problem-solving skills, document the interventions and client response, and notify/supervise or coordinate with the treatment team as appropriate.

The PRP Staff should not provide therapy outside their role, give medical advice, tell the client to start/stop/change medication, make promises about housing, or ignore potential safety concerns.

500

Explain the difference between PRP, therapy, and medication management.

PRP focuses on helping clients develop and strengthen practical skills needed to function successfully in their home, school, work, and community, such as coping, independent living, social, employment, and community-integration skills.

Therapy focuses on treating emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns through clinical interventions, processing experiences, identifying patterns, and developing therapeutic strategies.

Medication management focuses on evaluating, prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting psychiatric medications, including assessing effectiveness and side effects. It is typically provided by an authorized medical prescriber such as a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, or other qualified provider.
