This is the job of the occipital lobe.
What is to interpret visual information?
100
This system is responsible for voluntary movement only. It contains sensory and motor nerves.
What is the somatic nervous system?
100
Describe two of the three things that cause hunger.
What is low blood-sugar levels, stomach contractions, and taste receptors?
100
List 5 of the 6 basic emotions.
What is joy, fear, anger, disgust, surprise, and sadness?
100
First, define consciousness. Then, tell me why consciousness is a construct.
What is the organism’s awareness of, or possibility of knowing, what is going on inside and outside itself? What is because it is a concept that can’t be seen or touched, but according to evidence, is actually present?
200
Name 2 tasks controlled by the right hemisphere.
What is art, music, emotion and spatial reasoning?
200
The pituitary gland has two jobs. One is to help you grow. Tell me the other job.
What is to activate other glands?

Describe the Harry Harlow baby monkey studies (i.e. the testing process and the results). Then tell which drive this study proved.
What is baby monkeys were put into a cage with two mothers? One was covered in terry cloth; the other was made of wire with a bottle. Harlow exposed them to fear. Babies turned to cloth mother nearly every single time. This proved the stimulation drive.

Explain the process and results of the Japanese-American study.
What is group A was shown scary and non-scary movies while group B was shown the tapes of group A watching the movies? There were two results: 1. There was no difference between Japanese and American reactions to the movies. 2. There was no difference between Japanese and Americans’ ability to read facial expressions.

Describe the three theories on why we dream.
Solve Problems Theory: Dreams are designed to help work out unsolved problems left over from the day. Random Stimulation Theory: While we sleep the brain flushes out the garbage we don’t need. The brain tries to make sense of the info that appears so it makes up a “story” and we have a dream Reorganize the Brain Theory: While the brain replenishes chemicals, dreams process the past day/week.

First, name the two parts of the limbic system. Then describe what they are responsible for.
What is the amygdala and hippocampus? What is the amygdala controls emotional responses, especially aggression? What is the hippocampus enables us to form memories?
300
This neurotransmitter not only controls movement but also plays a part in memory. That explains why Alzheimer's patients are lacking in it.
What is acetylcholine?
300
When a person puts into practice whatever skills and talents they possess they've achieved this level of the hierarchy of needs.
What is self-actualization?
300
Describe the opponent-process theory.
What is the presence of 1 emotion triggers its opposite emotion?
300
Name two myths and two truths about hynosis.
Myths: Hypnosis isn't a stage of sleep, the hypnotist does NOT have control over a person, people cannot be forced to break the law under hypnosis, and hypnosis doesn't improve memory Truths: Might help with reducing weight, drinking or smoking IF the person desires change, can help a woman through normal child birth and minor pain and headaches, and can help students focus on assignments

This organ relays ingoing and outgoing information from the body to the brain and vice versa.
What is the thalamus?
400
The autonomic nervous system breaks down into two parts. Tell me what their name is and what they are responsible for.
What is the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems? What is the sympathetic system prepares us for emergencies? What is the parasympathetic system calms us down?
400
This body part is responsible for fear, rage, hunger, thirst, sexual desire, pleasure and pain.
What is the hypothalamus?
400
Describe two of the three skills required to have emotional intelligence.
What is self-awareness, ability to manage emotions, and empathy?
400
Define these sleep disorders: insomnia, narcolepsy, and sleep apnea. Then describe the challenges a person with each of these would have.
What is insomnia is the inability to get enough sleep? What is narcolepsy is a disorder in which a person falls asleep instantly? What is sleep apnea is a condition in which a person’s breathing often stops while the person is asleep? Sleep apnea and insomnia would be difficult because both would be missing out on sleep, the time period during which cells and neurotransmitters replenish. This would also be difficult because when they finally got to sleep, they'd be more likely to have nightmares. Plus, when they were awake they'd have difficulty with many higher-order thinking tasks. Narcolepsy would be difficult because of the danger of falling asleep at any moment.

Using the names of all the parts, describe how one neuron communicates with another neuron.
What is the dendrites of Neuron #1 receive information that travels through the cell body to the axon? What is the vesicles inside the axon float to the end and open up, releasing NTs? What is these NTs float to the dendrite recepters at Neuron #2?
500
The central nervous system is comprised of these 2 parts.
What is the brain and the spinal cord?
500
This psychological need is defined as the need to belong to and identify with groups.
What is the need for affiliation?
500
Choose one of the theories of emotion and describe how it would respond to this situation: You are driving on the interstate when you notice a deer standing in your lane just ahead.
James Lange: A stimulus causes a reaction from our body which then elicits an emotion. Cannon-Bard: A stimulus occurs, the body reacts, and at the same time, the emotion is produced. Schachter: A stimulus occurs, and people label the emotional state, then you feel the emotion.

Name the 5 stages of sleep and the brain waves that go with them.
What is awake = beta? What is stage 1 = alpha? What is stage 2 = theta? What is stage 3 = early delta? What is stage 4 = delta? What is REM sleep = beta?
