37-year-old man is admitted to the ER after found wandering naked in a local park.  When the SW interviews him, he speaks rapidly, seems euphoric, and repeatedly tells the SW about his plan to build a major art piece in the park. After careful questioning, they discover the man was recently put on meds by a local psychiatrist. What meds was the man most likely given?

A. Depakote

B. Lithium

C. Ativan

D. Citalopram

Citalopram.

The man is exhibiting mania and while both lithium and depakote are both used to treat mania, it would be usual for the client to become more manic after starting a mood stabilizer. Ativan is used to treat anxiety and is not associated with manic symptoms. Citalopram (Celexa) however is an anti-depressant that can in some cases induce a hypo-manic or even manic episode. Medication-induced mania is not common, but can occur.
