Attached to an air compressor. The air compressor pushes air through water. As the air flows through the water, it picks up moisture. The moisturized air then flows through the tubing to the collar placed over the patient's trach. This moisture is a very fine mist. It DOES NOT form "water in the lungs." It just gives the needed moisture to the air the patient breathes.
