Annually, new students and student leaders gather around a bright, warm light, and exchange entertainment.
What is the putney bonfire?
A class where students learn about Vermont, the farming business, as well as the natural environment of the local area, combining history, science, and writing.
What is humans?
A pioneer in progressive education. The founder of one of the very first co-ed boarding schools. She is the creator of the #1 boarding school in Vermont, and the 27th best boarding school for the arts. She lies buried not too far from campus.
Who is Carmelita Hinton?
He graduated like 50 years ago, I dunno. He has a grey beard, a loud voice...He's kind of an icon. You know him.

Deep in the Putney woods, there is a small house, a house built by students, a house only accessible on foot. This house isn't any house... or maybe it isn't a house at all.

You have to do it. You will smell bad. But it is one of the coolest, most unique experiences Putney has to offer.

Next to the swings, there once stood a key symbol to the Putney School. Tragically, it is no longer with us. It died from illness at old age. We remember it to this day.

A senior organized underground rave where students annually dress in extreme moderation and are encouraged to consume a mysterious concoction.

In the attic, there are ramps. There are hoops. There's graffiti. A magical place, now locked up by faculty because it once was the place kids would get high.

A class for deep introspection, a course for us to inquire the reason of it all...The quest to understand humanity.

A biennial tradition, where students ruthlessly chase each other around campus spreading a fictional virus.

In the woods, among the trees, decaying with rot, wood is stored.
What is the old horse barn?
This lab-based science class will allow students to extract color from natural sources for dyes that can be applied to fibers and pigments to combine with vehicles to produce paints. In both cases, students will learn the chemical process for the extraction techniques, providing a deeper study of organic chemistry, pH and redox reactions.
