During the downtown procedure, each specimen will require?

Each specimen will require two hand-written identifiers: patient name and date of birth, along with the date of collection, time of collection, and the collector’s initials. For frozen and/or pour-off specimens, the employee will hand-write the same information on the pour-off tube(s) along with the type of specimen in the tube (EDTA plasma, SST serum, etc.).

Manual Specimen Shipment Process- How will the specimens be bagged?

Each patient’s specimens will be bagged individually in small specimen bags and will include all paperwork associated with that patient. The employee will then count and sort all specimen bags by the Specimen Type and Temperature. Each Specimen Type will have its own Manual Shipment Sheet and self-seal bag.

On the manual shipment sheets, how do I send/mark a Quantiferon?

For specialty testing, mark “Other” and write out what the specimen is. For example, if you have Quantiferon specimens, you would write the number of specimens in the box next to “Other” and then write “Quantiferon/QFTB” in the blank indicated. For NIPS/0NIPS, you would write the number of specimens in the box next to “Other” and then write the name of the test in the blank indicated. The bag containing Quantiferons will be placed in the blue thermal pouch before being placed in the lockbox.
