What is resolution?
A direct comparison using dissimilar things using words like or as
Simile
The narrator tells the story and uses words like I, my, we, etc
What is first-person?
The voice that tells a story
What is narrator?
A character has a problem with one or more of the other characters
What is character vs. character?
The turning point in a story
What is climax?
A word that names a sound
What is onomatopoeia?
The narrator knows the thoughts of two or more of the characters
What is third-person omniscient?
Restating a passage in your own words while keeping the meaning, order, and length; must include a citation
What is paraphrasing?
A character struggles with him or herself, trying to decide what to do about a particular problem
What is character vs. self?
The element where the setting and characters are first mentioned
What is exposition
The giving of human qualities to an animal, object, or idea
What is personification?
The narrator is outside of the story and sees everything from only one character’s perspective
What is third-person limited?
The central message or purpose of a story that anyone at anytime can relate to; a lesson; the author’s belief about a recurring topic;
What is universal theme?
A struggle between a character and an outside force
What is external conflict?
The series of events in a story
What is plot?
A figure of speech in which the truth is exaggerated for emphasis or humorous effect
What is hyperbole?
The rarest point of view
What is second-person?
A reference to an outside source
What is citation?
A struggle that takes place within a character
What is internal conflict?
The stage in the plot where the conflict first develops
What is rising action?
A direct comparison of dissimilar things, usually stated as fact
What is metaphor?
The narrator is someone outside of the story and uses words like she, they, them, etc.
What is third-person objective?
Condensing a passage by briefly stating only the most important ideas, events, and details in your own words
What is summarizing?
A character is in conflict with some element of nature
