It can help emphasize the point the writer is trying to make. By repeating things we're more likely to remember them or place extra importance on them, so we'll pay more attention to the things that the author repeats.

Are song lyrics poetry? Why or why not?
Arguably, yes. Song lyrics contain many of the same poetic elements of poetry, such as rhyme, repetition, rhythm, imagery, symbolism, and strength of voice and tone. Both songs and poems are literary ways of expressing feelings and ideas.
