Fisher, Aron and Brown (2005) Effect of dopamine and romantic love. Explain.

  • Methodology: The study used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to examine the brain activity of participants who were intensely "in love." The participants viewed photos of their romantic partners while their brain activity was measured.

  • Findings:

    • When participants looked at pictures of their romantic partners, the ventral tegmental area (VTA), a part of the brain rich in dopamine neurons, was activated.
    • The VTA is associated with the brain's reward system and is also activated in response to pleasurable stimuli like food, drugs, and money.
100
Associated with reasoning, planning, thinking, and decision making.

Frontal lobe

When variables can pontentially distort the relationship between the IV and the DV

CONFOUNDING VARIABLES

5 methods of qualitative research

observation, interview, focus group,  case study, content analysis.

200

Part of the neuron also known as the talkers

The axon

200
What neurotransmitter is related with parkinson´s disease.

Dopamine

200

Associated with movement, orientation, perception and recognition

Parietal lobe

300
The ideal approach (sample) to make the sample representative

Random Sampling

300
2 advantages of focus group

-it is a quick way to get information from several participants at the same time.

- it creates more natural and comfortable environment than a face to face interview.

-it is easier to respond  to sensitive questons when you are in a group.

- multiple perspectives are discused.

An ______________ occurs when a neuron sends information down an axon, away from the cell body

action potential

300

What neurotransmitter is involved with pro-social behaviour?

Serotonin

300
Associated with visual processing.

Occipital lobe

400

This kind of validity that  is high when confounding variables have been controlled and we are quite certain that it was the change in the IV

Internal Validity

Redistribution of grey matter in the ______________ was found different, so, now we know that it is responsible for learning new spatial information.

Hippocampus

Lobe associated with processing auditory information, memory and speech

Temporal lobe

Are different from "true-experiments" in that the allocations into groups is not done randomly.
Quasi-experiments

Why do Phineas Gage Case study is important to psychology?

The Phineas Gage case study is one of the most famous and significant cases in the history of psychology and neuroscience. It is important because it provided early evidence of the role that the frontal lobes play in personality, decision-making, and social behavior.

HM PATIENT explain what happen to him, and what part was cut off of his brain.

"HM," or Henry Molaison, was a patient who underwent brain surgery in 1953 to alleviate severe epilepsy. The surgery involved the removal of portions of his temporal lobes, including the hippocampus, on both sides of his brain. This procedure was intended to reduce the frequency and severity of his seizures.
