How do you handle a bias incident?

If any individual is immedietly affected, provide support as much as possible

Identify the individuals involved if possible. 

Take photos or collect any evidence of the incident (board, whiteboards, flyers, etc.)

Remove, cover, or contact emergency maintence to remove anything that was defaced. 


Immediately call the appropriate RHD based on the our of day, and assist as asked to resolve the incident.


Follow up with any affected residents to the best of your ability.

You knock on a door for noise, and notice an open can of beer on a desk behind the resident you're talking to, and only one other resident in the room, what do you do?

Verify the residents are over 21, if they aren't, ask the residents to bring the alcohol to the center of the room, photograph IDs and the alcohol, ask a resident to go with you to the bathroom to dump the alcohol out and throw the container away. Ask the residents if they have any questions and wish them a good night. Write and submit your IR after rounds!

Based on the EMTs’ assessment, students will either be transported by ambulance to a local emergency room, transported to the Strafford County Jail to become sober, or released. You are not expected to “babysit” or watch over residents who are assessed as being well enough to be released.

• Anything that is a serious threat to the safety of the community (firearms and other weapons, toxic or extremely flammable substances such as gasoline, etc.)
