List the procedures when dealing with bodily fluids

  1. In the event of bodily fluid (blood, vomit, etc.) in the community, RD/ARD/AOC should be notified.

  2. The area where bodily fluid is located should be sectioned off with rope or tape, to the extent possible.

  3. Signs should be posted advising residents to stay out of the area.

  4. File a Pilikia if this occurs while on call

  5. If bodily fluid is in a high-traffic area that cannot be confined:  Staff should utilize bio-hazard kit according to package instructions to contain and/or remove bodily fluid as best they can. RD/ARD/AOC will email OPS to request follow-up the next business day.  Staff can use protective equipment (mask/gloves/face shield) if available. If staff do not feel safe cleaning the bodily fluid on their own, they should contact RD/ARD/AOC to troubleshoot next steps.  Depending on the situation, the RD/ARD/AOC may request that OPS come in.
