It is true that if other women in your family have had breast cancer, you may have a greater chance of getting it too. This is one reason why it is so important for you to have a mammogram every year. A mammogram can find breast cancer often up to 2 years before it can be felt. Only 5%-15% of breast cancers are from family history, that number is in your favor.
The patient states she has an x-ray order, should I schedule it?
No, all X-rays are on a walk-in basis. Please ask the patient to bring her order to her mammogran appointment and she can have it either before or after her mammogram exam.

Patient states she has a port placed in her chest and is wondering about having a mammogram with it in there. What would you tell her?
It is not a problem at all to have a mammogram with breast implants. Our mammographers are trained to take special care not to cause any additional discomfort. We never put pressure upon the implant during the exam. You can definitely still have a mammogram with a pacemaker/port/medical device. Our technologists will be extra careful with you. Just be sure to make them aware before your exam.
