What does it mean to call someone a "Slit Ear" or "Schlitzohr?"

Double Points: Where did the term come from?

A "Slit Ear" or "Schlitzohr" refers to someone doing something untrustworthy and/or swindly.

Double Points: The term comes from Old Germany when a blacksmith tried false advertising something and/or tried to scam you. Someone would then come and rip a golden earing out of their ear causing a Slit in their Ear, hence, a Slit Ear.
