Range Safety & Regulations
This command is used to take a weapon from condition 4 to condition 3.
What is Load?
The failure of the weapon system to operate in its intended design.
What is a Malfunction?
Designed to be fired on a 15 yard range using the transition target II or B-21. The courses of fire are at the 3 yard line with 12 rounds, 7 yard line with 12 rounds, and the 15 yard line with 24 rounds.

What is 2 to 1?
To establish Navy policy & prescribe minimum qualification & sustainment requirements for individual small arms training & qualification. This instruction serves as the foundation of marksmanship skill for each Sailor, but by no means limits the unit's ability to provide additional training.

What is Immediate Action?
Designed to be fired on a 200 yard range using the "A" target or at 25 yards using "A" target. Zeroing will be performed in a steady supported position(prone) using the 25 meter zeroing target. Courses of fire are zeroing with 10 rounds, prone with 15 rounds, kneeling with 15 rounds, and standing with 10 rounds.
What is Rifle Qualification Course(RQC)?

This form is used to document the training and qualification for Small Arms Qualifications.
What is OPNAV 3591/1 Small Arms Qualifications Record?
An unintentional firing of a shot due to a violation of the 4 Universal Safety Rules, or other improper weapon handling.
What is Negligent Discharge?
An unintentional interruption in the cycle of operation. Normally discovered when the weapon does not fire. Proper operation, care, cleaning and lubrication of the weapon can prevent this.
What is Stoppage?
This course of fire will consist of 18 rounds fired within 3 minutes. Shooters will advance from the ready line, which is behind the 25 yard line. During COF, line coach will accompany the shooter ensuring to never move in front of the muzzel of the weapon. Line coach should be positioned slightly behind & to the strong side of the shooter in order to watch loading procedures, ensure proper operation of the safety & ensure muzzel discipline. Shooter will remove their finger from trigger guard & place weapon on "safe" prior to loading & moving to the next firing station.
What is Shotgun Practical Weapon Corse(SPWC)?
Personnel chosen from the command who have demonstrated proper weapon(s) knowledge & proficiency, have completed the line coach PQS contained in the Navy Security Force Weapons PQS, & are qualified in the weapon(s) they coach. Will ensure compliance with all safety procedures & assist SAMIs during pre-fires training & coach individual shooters on the firing line.

This form is used to record the Qualification & Sustainment of Machine Gun Performance.

What is Condition Code 3 for the M240?
The process of investigating the cause of the stoppage, clearing the stoppage and returning the weapon to operation. There is no one set of procedures that can be performed to clear all or even most stoppages that can occur. Therefore, the stoppage must be investigated and this action must be performed to clear it.
What is Remedial Action?
To experience & test the ability to effectively engage targets in less than ideal, static conditions. RSO should choose an activity relative to the shooter's physical condition to elevate the heart rate of the shooter directly prior to commencing with weapon holstered & restrained. COF is intended to be conducted for only 1 shooter at a time, however, an approved range with 2 or more physically separated lanes of fire may accommodate running 2 or more shooters at a time.
What is Handgun Practical Weapon Course(HPWC)?
Qualified small arms instructors who have completed one of the following courses: Navy Security Force Weapons PQS 43366-D, are appointed inwriting by the CO, ensure compliance with establish range safety rules, must not act in the capacity of a line coach while performing the duties of the ___, but may call out the course of fire, ensure current copy of instruction & EAP, and etc.
What is Range Safety Officer (RSO)?
During small arms training on the range, the ratio of shooters to line coaches must not be greater than _to_ for shooters who have previously qualified on the same COF & with the same type weapon.
What is 6 to 1?
Before any live fire operations can take place, this must be established & coordinated with any host command. This must include: primary & alternate mean of communication, identification & locations of emergency devices, notification lists of personnel & appropriate chains of command, muster sites & evacuation routes, entry routes for emergency services vehicles, & etc.
What is Emergency Action Plan?
When only a portion of the propellant is ignited and could result in the projectile obstructing the bore. If this situation occurs, the slide and hammer or bolt is in the forward position. Under no circumstance is immediate action performed.
What is an Audible Pop or Reduced Recoil?
Before each performance evaluation, all personnel must perform all drill set to include trigger control, rhythm shoot, reloads, malfunction drills, night loads or gas mask(if applicable), talking guns, and search & traverse. COF is a 6 phase, 100 round performance evaluation fired on a 400 meter range (afloat or ashore) using an 8 by 8 feet size area target.
What is Light & Medium Machine Gun Performance Evaluation?
Has final authority to decide, based on safety criteria, if a shooter will participate in live fire qualification.
What is Range Safety Officer(RSO)?
Screenings must be conducted annually utilizing ____& maintained in the member's service or training record. Navy personnel have an obligation to inform their command if they have a qualifying domestic violence conviction at any other time throughout the year.
