What is the difference between directly proportional and inversely proportional?
DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL: Any situation involving equivalent ratios and rates, in a table of values, the numbers in the first row and second row form sequences of proportional numbers. When represented in a graph, the line is straight and passes directly through the orgin. INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL: The product of the independent variable and the dependent variable remains constant. It is represented graphically by a curve that gradually approaches the axes but never touches it.

Three friends compare their electricity bill. John who lives in Ontario, paid $125 for 2500kw. Jennifer, who lives in British Columbia, paid $187.55 for 3100kw. Joey, who lives in Manitoba, paid $140.56 for 2800kw. What is the unit rate for each person?
John: $0.05 Jennifer: $0.06 Joey: $0.05 To find the answer, for example, the unit rate of Jennifer, divide how much she paid, by the amount of kilowatts. 187.55/3100 =0.06
