A toll-free telephone system that provides general information to participants about Ontario Works and selected information about personal case files.

An Interview

Any time that you meet with your worker you can bring someone with you. This person can be anyone you would like to have there.

A Decision in Writing

We will write to tell you of any eligibility or financial decisions we make and the reasons for making them.

A Chance to Have Decisions Reviewed

If you disagree with any decision that we make, you may request a review within thirty (30) days of the date on the letter. You will be told of the result in writing.

•You can report income, address or telephone number changes

•To access this service, you need to have an email address and Direct Bank Deposit (DBD) on file

What is an Outcome Plan?

•An agreement with the activities you agree to participate in

•Full time participation is 140 hours per month

      (7 hours per day x 5 days per week x 4 weeks per month).

•Approved activities include: work, job searching, school, training programs and volunteering

What is a Restriction and a Deferral?

Deferrals

If you have a situation which prevents you from participating, speak to your caseworker. You may need to provide proof and your requirements could be deferred (meaning removed completely for a period of time).

restricted for short periods of time.

Restrictions

For example, you may have a medical (health related) issue or childcare related. From time to time, you will be required to submit an update of your current situation.

This will require more discussion with your caseworker.

Why would it be beneficial to have earnings while on Ontario Works?

•The more income you earn, the less money you receive from Ontario Works, but you have more total income from all sources.

•If your income exceeds your monthly OW entitlement so that you no longer qualify for financial assistance, you may still qualify for health benefits.

Mental Wellness Initiative

•We have free online and phone-based counselling that may interest you.

•This is a program for those looking for help with mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, self-esteem etc.

•You can access help 24/7 from the comfort of your own home using your own computer, tablet or smart phone.

•The counselling can be adjusted to your needs and includes skill-building exercises like deep breathing and journaling, as well as regular check-ins with a dedicated therapist – online and over the phone.

•It’s completely confidential and does not affect your social assistance.

•Visit the website to complete the assessment to determine if you’re eligible.
