Zack and Andy were building a spaceship from a kit Zack got for his birthday. There were lots of small pieces spread out all over the table. “That’s a lot of pieces!” Andy said. Zack unfolded the paper that had the directions. It had pictures to show how to put the spaceship together, step by step. He showed the paper to Andy. “Look,” said Zack. “It starts with four of these long thin pieces.
Zack and Andy looked for four of the long thin pieces so they could start building the spaceship.
Bob sat staring at the TV in his bedroom. There were books and clothes everywhere. He heard his mom coming up the stairs. “Oh no!” he cried as quickly stood up and looked around his bedroom.
Bob's mom came into his bedroom and was upset that he was watching TV instead of cleaning up.
I have a dog named Boots. I taught him lots of tricks. When I tell him to, Boots will sit or lie down. He can also wave his paw to greet people. When I say, 'Dance, Boots', he will stand up on two legs and walk.
Boots is a smart dog and can do many tricks.
A letter came in the mail for Michelle. Michelle’s mother showed it to her and told her she was very disappointed. “Think about the other people who are waiting for that book. You must return it immediately.”
Michelle had not returned her book to the library on time.
On the way to her room after just having been grounded, Tammy murmured something under her breath.
Whispered
“Do you want me to quiz you?” Paulina’s mom asked.“I don’t know.” Paulina replied. “I went through the list three times last night. I think I can spell all the words.” “Better safe than sorry,” Paulina’s mom said. “And you have plenty of time before the bus comes.”Tina handed her word list to her mom.
Paulina’s mom quizzed her on the spelling words.
I forgot to bring my wallet to the movie theater.
The person is not going to be able to buy their ticket or see the movie unless they go home to get their wallet or a friend lends them money.
Spot was a large grey and white cat who lived in a barn on a farm. Spot liked living in the barn because it was warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There were many mice for him to chase. Best of all, Spot had a soft place to sleep in the corner of a stall and loved living with the cows and horses.

Tyler heard loud sirens and watched as a bright red engine sped down the street in front of his house. In the distance, he could see smoke rising into the sky.
There is a fire in Tyler's neighborhood.
The cat scuttled quickly around the room without lying down at all.

“Lin’s mom just called,” said Katy’s mom. “She said Lin has a fever, and is staying home from school today.“Oh shoot,”said Katy. “We’re partners on our science project, and everyone’s going to be working on their projects today. I guess I’ll just have to do all the work myself.” “Hmmm,” said Katy’s mom. “When is the project due?”“It’s not due for a week. We’re just getting started on it.”“Maybe your teacher would let you work on your other homework while the class is working on the project. Then when Lin gets better, she can come over here after school,and the two of you can catch up on the project. Do you want me to write a note to your teacher to see if that would be OK?
Katy's mom wrote a note to her teacher so that Katy could wait for her friend to get better.
Charles let his dog, Roscoe, into the house. Roscoe ran over to his food bowl and wildly began to wag his tail.
Roscoe is hungry.
Meerkats in Africa live in large groups of 20 to 50 members. The group works together to survive and all members of the group care for the baby meerkats. They take turns babysitting and will protect the young ones from danger. Members of the group also take turns watching out for threats from other animals while the group finds food. If any dangerous animal comes towards the group, the meerkat on duty will bark a warning.
Meerkats in Africa live in large groups and work together to stay safe and survive.
Dylan was surprised when he saw Jason come into the classroom with a cast on his arm. He had seen Jason fall off his bike the day before, but he didn’t realize the injury was so serious.
Jason fell off his bike and broke his arm.
The lanky dog never got fat even though he ate a lot.
Skinny
From the back seat, Tina looked out the front windshield. There wasn’t much to see. Just fields and more fields. “Are we there yet?” she asked, knowing that they weren’t even close. “Not yet,” her dad said with a smile. Tina couldn’t wait to get to her grandma’s house. There was a big yard to play in, and good things to eat. Her cousins were going to be there too. Tina’s eyes got heavy.“Are we there yet?” Tina said in a very sleepy voice.Her dad just said, “Nope!”Tina closed her eyes.“Hey sleepyhead!” said Tina’s mom. “Time to rise and shine!” The car had stopped moving.
They all got out of the car and went inside Grandma's house to see their family.
The teacher told the children to clear everything but a pencil from their desks. She then began handing out tests. Thomas looked startled. “Wait! Ms. Smith? The test is today? Are you sure? I thought it was tomorrow!”
Thomas did not study for the test.
James and his sister, Anna, went to the carnival on Saturday. They rode the merry-go-round, the roller coaster and the ferris wheel. James ate popcorn and a hot dog. Anna drank lemonade and ate an apple. They saw many exciting shows. They were tired when they went home.
James and Anna did a lot of activities at the carnival.
Carly and her mom watched the large truck drive away slowly. Then, they walked through the empty rooms of the house one last time before getting into their car.

I meandered through the woods taking my time exploring.
Wandered
Sean looked around the lunch room, then went and sat across from his friend Eric. “Hey, Sean,” Eric said, holding up a paperback book.“I just finished reading this book. It was about a kid from a small town who grows up to be a star quarterback in the NFL." Sean said, "Cool! I want to be an NFL player when I grow up, too!"
Sean asked Eric to borrow the book.
Lauren sat in the lobby of her apartment building watching people come in from the street. Almost everyone who came in was carrying an umbrella. Those who weren’t, she observed, had wet hair and soaking wet coats.
It raining outside.
The rain began early in the morning. It fell as hard drops, one after another. The sky was full of dark purple clouds. Thunder began as a soft rumble and became louder and louder. Lightning crashed every few minutes, making the sky a brilliant white.
The storm was full of rain, thunder, and lightning.
Tracy looked around the classroom but didn’t see her friend Melissa anywhere. “Hmmm...” she thought. “Melissa was coughing a lot yesterday and said she had a sore throat.”
Melissa is sick and stayed home.
Jackie was mortified after her puppy ripped her friend’s brand new sweater.
