What is a CONVENTION?
A meeting for people who are voting or solving problems about the community.
What does the TEXT STRUCTURE, SEQUENCE mean?
To follow events in order. It usually gives dates in order.
What does NONFICTION mean?
What does SUMMARY mean?
To give the most important parts of the story in order.
What does disagree mean?
To not agree.
What does WELFARE mean?
Looking after someone's healthiness and happiness.
Why would the author underline or bold words in the story?
To show they are important!
What are the THREE author's Purposes?
PIE: Persuade, inform and entertain.
What does MAIN IDEA or CENTRAL IDEA mean and how do you look for it?
It is one sentence that shows what the story is all about. You can look at repeated words, headings, and the first few/last few sentences in the story.
What does useless mean?
Without a use.
Thinking ahead to all of the people who will be alive after you --- your future generations: children, grandchildren, etc.

Why does the author include pictures?
To show what they are describing or to help the reader visualize what is going on!
What was the author's purpose in The U.S. Constitution Story we read this week?
To inform us about the beginning of the United States Government.

-Domestic: Things that happen IN THE COUNTRY that you live.
