Why did the Prophet ﷺ compare a good friend to a perfume seller and a bad friend to a blacksmith?

Because friends affect us, just like smells affect us!

  • If you stand near a perfume seller, even if you don’t buy anything, you still smell nice. That’s like a good friend, they help you do good, use kind words, and remember Allah.
  • If you stand near a blacksmith, smoke or sparks might make your clothes dirty or smelly. That’s like a bad friend, they can lead you to bad actions or words.

So, the Prophet ﷺ taught us to choose friends who make us better, just like perfume makes us smell nice!
