Used for removing water vapor from compressed air
What is an air dryer?
Dust is being removed from the dust hopper without leaks.
What is the evidence of good operation?
Helps to maintain the liquid level in the area of the tubes so that these tubes are always submerged in the liquid.
What are weirs?
Used to increase the amount of contact area between the liquid and vapor phases.
What are trays?
A piping arrangement that recovers hot condensate from various kinds of equipment that use steam.
What is a condensate system or installation?
Dry compressed air.
What is the primary output of air dryers?
The primary input of the a dust collector.
What is dusty air?
Condensate and Process Vapor
What are the primary outputs of Reboilers?
The fluid collected at the top of the Tower.
What are the "lights"?
Generally it is a vertical vessel with side openings for the steam trap discharge lines.
What is a flash drum?
Used to reduce the noise level before exiting to the atmosphere.
What is a muffler?
Mechanical shaker type and a pulse air type
What are the two main types of dust collectors?
The portion of the “process” liquid which is vaporized.
What are the light fractions or low boiling point material.
A term used to describe lights sent back to the stripper to aid in the separation process.
What is reflux?
Steam trap that operates on a flotation principle using a float.
What are float traps?
A hygroscopic substance used as a drying agent in air dryers.
What is desiccant?
Pulls dust from all hoppers and transfers it to one end where it is discharged
What is a screw conveyor?
Acts as a seal and does not allow steam to pass directly through the reboiler
What is a steam trap?
The liquid collected at the bottom of the column.
What are heavies?
A trap in which the operating element is made of two different metals
What is a Bimetallic Thermostatic Trap?
A prefilter where oil and water are separated before the air dryer inlet.
What is a coalescer?
The section at the bottom of a dust collector that collects the dust for discharge.
What is a hopper?
A type of reboiler that can be arranged to take the feed from the bottom of the column or from a tray in the column
What are thermosyphon reboiler?
The three most common types of trays.
What are perforated, bubble cap or valve tray variety?
Installed in the steam lines ahead of the steam traps keep impurities from clogging the traps.
What are strainers?
