A time period in which there was a call for the Catholic Church to "reform" or improve its ways. Most notably is attributed to Martin Luther.

What is a "Protestant" and how did they get their name?
A Protestant is a person who split from the Catholic Church and became a part of a separate Christian faith. They got their name because they would "protest" against the church.

He nailed the 95 Theses to the church door. Several of his theses focused on the Catholic Church's sale of indulgences.

Why did King Henry VIII start the Anglican church in England?
He was married to Queen Catherine, but they had only a daughter (Queen Elizabeth I). He had an extra-marital relationship with Anne Boleyn. He asked Pope Clement VII for an annulment (similar to a divorce), the pope refused it. So King Henry VIII started his own church.

Excommunication is when an individual was no longer officially a part of the Catholic Church. It also meant that they would go to hell unless they were properly reconciled with the Church.

Before the Diet of Worms, Pope Leo X sent a special letter to Martin Luther. What was this letter called and what did it mean?
He sent him a letter telling him that he was excommunicated. Later the Diet of Worms was put together so that Martin Luther could explain himself and hopefully recant (take back what he wrote/said in the 95 theses).

Explain how the atmosphere of the Catholic Church was different than that of the Anglican Church.
Catholic churches had stained glass windows, crucifixes, paintings, and other decoration. Anglican churches had all white walls, except for the 10 commandments that were painted.

Why was the Council of Trent important?
It was a main part of the Counter-Reformation. It strived to discuss what was wrong with the Catholic Church so it could be reformed. It also reiterated the Catholic Church's teachings.
