This must occur before the sexual partner of a reactive donor can be counseled about the reactive donor's test results.

A sexual partner of a deferred donor is not counseled without written permission from the deferred donor. This permission is recorded as a COUNSELING Note.

Without consent, Medical Staff or Center Director talks to the suspected partner/contact in a private setting. Inform the donor that the Donor Center has received Post Donation Information that disqualifies them from the donation program. Reassure the donor that they will be informed if any of their test results are received as abnormal. Inform the donor that due to confidentiality reasons no further information may be disclosed.

Explain the donor notification attempt process for a donor who has not returned to the donor center for counseling since results were received.

Contact the donor at the phone number recorded in NexLynk and request they return to the Donor Center to discuss the results of recent lab work.

If phone contact is unsuccessful or donor refuses to return to center: Complete SOP 8.04.02_NG Donor Notification Letter – Reactive Test Result. 

If the website indicates the information was received and the donor has not contacted the Donor Center within (7) seven days, initiate a phone call.
