Why is nonverbal communication important?

It allows us to read a person's body language to understand how they are feeling and how we can best respond. If a person backs away or is closed off that may communicate they are scared or uncomfortable. If a person laughs and smiles they could be enjoying the interaction. If a person is becoming red, tense, or pacing they may be frustrated.
