How did Jeroboam mess up?
Jeroboam didn't want people worshiping in Judah. So he set up places for his people to worship & provided each place with an altar and a great golden bull. People soon started to worship the bulls as gods. Eventually he led the people into idolatry.
What is idolatry?
Idolatry is to give worship a creature or thing that isn't God. Idolatry is forbidden by the first commandment.
What does the First Commandment call up to?
The First Commandment calls us to love and honor God above all else. The Commandment also calls us to place our hope and trust in God. Even if we forget God's love and care for us.
Who is Ahab?
Ahab is one of the worst northern kings. After marring Jezebel, Ahab began worshiping Baal. Ahab also used false priests and prophets as advisors.
What did Ahab do with his wife?
Jezebel did her best to get people to worship Baal & other Gods. Ahab allowed Jezebel to kill hundreds who had believed in the one true God.
What are prophets?
Prophets are sent by God in order to guide his people in his ways. Prophets told the people to stop and think about the way that they were living. They called the people to be faithful to God just as God was faithful to them. The power of a Prophet comes from the one true God.
Who is Elijah?
The name Elijah means "Yahweh I my God." Elijah's message called the people to faith in the one true God.
Who is Elisha?
Elisha was anointed by Elijah and had the spirit of God upon him.
Who are Elijah and Elisha?
These 2 prophets spoke God's words to many and urged the people to live in justice and faithfulness. deeds of Elijah and Elisha are recorded in the First and Second book of kings.
What can we learn from all the Prophets?
We can learn that their words and actions show how God is loving & faithful to his people, even when they are not faithful to him.
What happened after Ahab's death?
After Ahab died in battle, his sons took over & tried to turn the people back to the one true God. Unfortuanly Jezebel had too much power & influence, so they weren't successful.
Who is Jehu?
Jehu is a general that killed Jezebel and most if Ahab's family. He also destroyed the places where false gods were worshiped. He then killed the false priests and officals and established himself as king. Soon he freed the people from worshiping false gods.

Jehoash is a king that began a period of power & prosperity for the Israelites.
Who is Jeroboam the second?
Under his rule Israel regained the last land in the north and established peace with the Southern Kingdom of Judah. Jerobaom's reign was another "golden age".
What are some problems in Israel?
Some Israelites were wealthy, most of them lived a hard life and the government did nothing to make it easier. Many people also no longer fulfilled their promises to God. The faith of the israelites was almost completely lost.
What is Faith
Faith is a gift from God.
How do we strengthen our faith?
When we follow the example of Christ, and ask the Holy Spirit for help. We can also respond to God' love in our lives.
What is Assyria?
The king of Assyria attacked Israel and took over the countryside. Israelites were sent away, or deported to mesopotamia and other places to run as slaves.
Who is Amos?
Amos was called to be a Prophet during the reign of Jeroboam the second and addressed the many problems the Israelites had.
Who is Hosea?
Hosea is a Prophet married to Gomer. Gomer was unfaithful to Hosea= Israelites were unfaithful to God. He loved his wife & couldn't give her up= God loves us and never abondons us. Hosea told the Israelites that their promises of faithfulness to God was empty unless they could show their love by the way they lived.
