People would use animals for hunting and herding, and in return we would provide shelter, warmth, and food. Everything we do for our animals and what they do for us is completely transactional.

There’s a hormone called oxytocin, which is linked with the feeling of love and bonding, that increases when animals are interacting with humans or other animals which indicated that they are capable of loving and feeling affection.

The size of the dog and color of the coat plays a factor in which genders prefer certain types of dogs. Black dogs with dark markings often prefer men and brown dogs like woman.

Humans do have moral obligations to animals because of moral considerability. Even though humans often times view themselves at a higher pedestal compared to animals, but we many know how to ethically treat animals and what’s considered wrong. We know that because animals offer us humans so much, there is an obligation to treat them well because they give us as much as we give them.

Animals are loyal even when people are not. Having a pet to serve the role of “a man’s best friend” can serve as a friend or therapist by being compassionate and sympathetic.

Yes. Some people are genetically predisposed to love animals and seek out a relationship with them because of our ancestors. For example, people who had ancestors who hunted for animals and heavily relied on them as their main source of food were less likely to get emotionally attached and treat them as a member of the family. On the flip side, people whose ancestors were farmers who had animals to herd sheep and protect their home from invaders were more likely to have relationships with their domestic animals.

Childhood trauma can alter the way people view animals. If the child was injured by an animal they can develop fear for the animal/animals, because they are afraid that the incident could happen again. Some cultures believe that dead loved ones are reincarnated into animals, the Islamic religion says that Allah has given people power over animals and if they treat animals badly then they’re disobeying Allah, in India cows are considered sacred and are the most respected, and in Argentina is a symbol of national pride.

They view their pets as nothing more than an extra responsibility, an extra mouth to feed, and extra money they’re spending.
