Where did the renaissance start?

It began in Italy. When Italian City states gained great wealth, they were able to pay for great works of art. The long coastlines in Italy allowed Italian city states to become very wealthy because of trade. Trade with the Islamic empires also have them access to lost Greek and Roman texts. People also became curious about the Roman ruins left behind in Italy. These three things created the perfect conditions for the Renaissance!
