attempt to exactly duplict original study

having a small sample size (there are few outliers and could cause observational effect)
the old research could have questionable research practices such as "Fishing", post-hoc hypothesizing and ignoring variables that did not show effect.

No it doesn't necessarily mean it generalizes

Its a test that determines whether a lab study generalizes to a real world setting
