FALSE - we can never be totally sure they're off and if we keep the expectation consistent across the board, it creates a more safe environment.

Why do we complete chores on each shift?

soooo many people here all day long! It's important to keep our environment clean and SAFE for the kids and everyone coming to work.

What does a clean room look like?

What should you be listening for when a student is in the bathroom on HS and WHY?

Consistent counting, or continuous talking. You're listening for any changes in voice/tone etc to be sure they're not ingesting something, vomiting, running away or self-harming)

Pick someone on your team and demonstrate how to redirect a student out of their doorway. Work together to explain why it's important students aren't in their doorway!

When in their doorways it can create an unsafe environment and provide opportunities for students to yell to each other, gossip or get involved in something they shouldn't.

Can students on LS/LR do meal prep?

NO! There is an open flame in the kitchen and they cannot be near this on a safety status, as well as increased access to unsafe items.

It's important we are redirecting and guiding our kids to have appropriate topics of conversation - no talking about others who are not present or topics like drugs, alcohol etc. as it's not conducive to their treatment.

Can you put food down the sink in the dining hall?

Technically yes, (in the big sink) however, please dont! It clogs easily and causes lots of stress for everyone. . and then we are down a sink. The sink near the fryer should NEVER have food put in it as it does not have a disposal :)

Why do we fill out the location sheet?

To ensure students have EYES on them every 15 min per policies. Additionally, it helps us not lose students and maintain a safe milieu. If you are giving locations of students, you should actually have eyes on them and not just say where you thought they were last time you saw them.

Stella is on a HS/HR and has had a really awesome day in school! Is it okay for her to join a rec room activity on 2nd shift? Why or Why not?

No way jose! She is at increased risk to run or harm herself on these precautions and transitions between buildings should be limited to school transitions ONLY to provide safety and containment to Stella. Additionally, there are 3 doors in the rec room which make it a less containing option. 

 On occasion, there may be admin approval given for this to happen, but it would be supported with a strong plan to support a safe transition and a safe experience in the rec room.

Sacoya's crop top meets the top of her jeans when she is standing still. When she starts to walk to class, you can see her whole back and belly. What do you do?

Redirect her to put something else on or over it. If she declines, she should remain out of the community until she's able to make the right decision.

Who's responsibility is it to clean up common areas? 

Yours. . . and everyone else in this room and that works here! This is our kids home for the time being and a place where we all come to work. If we see trash, or a mess, or things laying around, everyone walking by should be working to pick it up and leave the area looking clean and tidy to support the treatment of our kids as well as a nice work environment.

Why do our kids have to ask before moving?

Creates a contained safe environment. If they're walking around everywhere, it's harder to monitor and just feels more chaotic.

When are you allowed to use a cell phone during working hours? Explain your reasoning.

NEVER. 

- It takes away from our ability to monitor students safely and effectively.

- It also puts you at risk for students to see something personal on your phone. 

- It can be distracting to you

- If you found out some emotional news, it could impact your affect on the floor

- It shows the kids that you're not invested in caring for them
