A resident knocks on your door and says, "Hey we are going 'Alpha Gamma Blah Blah Blah', do you want to go with us!? The theme is Jungle, for the juice!" How do you respond?

You just spent all night studying for an exam that is at 8am tomorrow. You finally go to sleep, it is 3am.....*knock knock knock* What do you do?

I will accept two answers.

Ignore. You can set that boundary, you are not on duty and they can refer to the in/out board to figure out who can assist them

BUT

If the resident is persistent in knocking please answer, and then refer them to the duty phone or just assist them. They might not have their phone so be prepared that when you open that door you are enacting in your role so please respond accordingly.

Two of your residents are yelling in the hallway about toothpaste, not asking about sharing food, and hooking up with people while locking the other one out...woof a lot to unpack. How do you respond?

Deescalate, separate the two people and talk to them individually. Then bring them back to the conversation together. Ensure they feel comfortable, and bring up roommate agreements. Write a CIR.

You are having a Pizza Party! But the pizza was delivered and now it is gone because you didn't arrive in time :( What can be done?

Nothing !

Students who place orders from local businesses and request delivery to a residence hall are expected to meet the delivery person at the building’s designated main entry door.  Residence Life is not responsible for lost, stolen, and/or tampered items.

A resident wants to friend you on snapchat, do you accept?

No! You are putting yourself in a position where you might have to do your job 😳 You might see them drinking on their story, or breaking other policies...

You hear yelling from an all boys floor from a stairwell. It is during courtesy hours. After further investigation, it turns out they are watching Sunday Night Football. You knock and let them know it is Courtesy Hours. The group of boys scoff and tell you it isn't Quiet Hours yet, and shut the door in your face. How do you proceed?

Call RA OR SHC, and then proceed. It would be helpful to have another body to help mediate the conflict. Since residents broke policy everyone will be sent home after the conclusion of the event. Be sure to write a CIR and note they were not compliant. It is important to add that note since the AC wasn't there.

ALSO: How many people are in the room is important. Remember the occupant policy.

A resident knocks on your door at 2am while you and your roommate are sleeping. You answer and the resident is in crisis and needs support. How do you proceed?

You go to the AC/Staff office in your building. With having a roommate you want to remain confidential.

Maybe call AC on Call if you are worried about the situation escalating. In this case do not call RA on Duty because the resident trusted you.

Inform the resident that you are calling ACoC because they are better equipped and having more professional training.

Write CIR.

After this instance you can check-in with care NOT with question.

Pamela will reach out to me if the student will need more support but that is not up to me or you!

After this instance you can check-in with care NOT with question.
