  • John has been struggling in the milieu for the last couple of days. When staff attempt to process with the youth, he blows up on them and storms off. During treatment team, staff learned that he has also been refusing to participate in his sessions with his counselor. One day, a new hire who has a similar interest to John sits down and John starts to discuss his behaviors and concerns. After processing, John agrees to do one session per week. The next day, John gets into a verbal altercation with a peer. Instead of resorting to fighting, he finds the staff and explains the situation.

Today, during media time, the youth started a riot. After the milieu calmed down, the staff continued the TV show for the youth. The youth ended their day watching the same TV series. Throughout the day, several youth bullied other youth until they were bored, while others walked in and out of their rooms. At times, there were more than two youth in a bedroom. Staff continued to watch the television show. They reported no criticals or inappropriate behaviors.

  • Today, during a high-level activity, the youth became frustrated with each other. They paused their game and asked the staff to help them discuss their concerns. During the conversation, the youth were intentional about listening strategically and managing their emotions. After 10 minutes, they were able to resume their activity without any incidents.
